Supporting Certificate Holders with EUDR compliance
With the 30 December 2026 deadline approaching, organisations across biomass supply chains are continuing their preparations to meet the requirements of the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR). Recognising the challenges associated with gathering, managing and reporting the necessary information, SBP has developed a voluntary EUDR module within the SBP Data Transfer System (DTS) to help support Certificate Holders in their compliance efforts.
Developed in collaboration with Global Traceability Solutions (GTS), the EUDR module enables organisations to manage EUDR-related information and due diligence activities alongside their existing SBP certification data. By bringing these processes together within a single platform, the module helps reduce duplication, improve efficiency and support a more streamlined approach to compliance.
The module supports the collection and management of key information required under the Regulation, including supply chain, geolocation and due diligence data. It also facilitates the preparation and submission of Due Diligence Statements (DDS) to the EU Information System (TRACES) platform, helping organisations manage regulatory requirements through a familiar and trusted system.
Importantly, the module has been designed to accommodate different organisational needs and levels of experience. Some organisations may already have established due diligence procedures in place, whilst others may be seeking additional support as they prepare for compliance. The flexible nature of the module enables organisations to integrate EUDR processes into their existing arrangements and utilise the level of support most appropriate to their circumstances.
Onboarding and online training are included as part of the DTS offering available to SBP Certificate Holders, and organisations also have the option to connect their own ERP systems directly to the DTS. For Certificate Holders seeking additional support, GTS offers a range of optional EUDR services designed to complement existing compliance processes:
- Self-assessment – the Certificate Holder applies its own risk assessment procedure and uses the GTS geolocation analysis. Transactions classified as negligible risk and deforestation-free are submitted to TRACES.
- Tailor-made data templates – as above, but with the Certificate Holder’s own data collection template integrated into the process.
- Full EUDR service package – GTS supports the whole process, including onboarding and training of the operator and its suppliers, data collection and gap filling, satellite-based geodata and deforestation analysis, risk assessment and mitigation, and the DDS and reporting to the EU Information System.
A number of SBP Certificate Holders are already using the EUDR module as part of their compliance preparations, providing valuable practical experience ahead of the Regulation’s implementation. Their engagement is helping to further refine the solution and ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of biomass supply chains.
The development of the EUDR module reflects SBP’s wider commitment to providing value beyond certification. Alongside our Standards, assurance framework and digital tools, we continue to invest in practical solutions that help stakeholders respond to evolving regulatory requirements whilst maintaining confidence in the sustainability, legality and traceability of biomass supply chains.
As organisations move towards implementation of the EUDR, SBP will continue to support Certificate Holders through guidance, technical resources and practical compliance tools. We encourage organisations interested in learning more about the EUDR module and the support available through the DTS to contact us at [email protected].
