What is the Sustainable Biomass Program?

The Sustainable Biomass Program (SBP) is a leading certification scheme designed to provide assurance that biomass, whether used for energy, industry, or beyond, is sourced both legally and sustainably.

SBP’s certification framework covers a broad spectrum of bio-based products, including wood pellets and chips, biochar, biocarbon, and other processed wood-based products, assuring compliance with regulatory requirements, sustainability criteria, and responsible sourcing practices. By certifying diverse biomass materials, SBP supports the transition to a low-carbon economy while promoting transparency, traceability, and best practices across the supply chain.
