The SBP GHG Calculator
A verified approach to measuring emissions
Quick to use and easy to understand, our GHG Calculator delivers verified, transparent emissions calculations to help understand GHG emissions in the biomass supply chain. Its methodology has been independently verified by SGS, a globally recognised testing, inspection and Certification Body, adding confidence in the approach.
The calculator is provided to support stakeholders and is non-normative (that is, it is not a mandatory requirement). In order to publicise or report the conclusions of GHG calculations, Certificate Holders must have SBP Standard 6 in their scope.
Confidence in emissions reporting
The SBP Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Calculator supports accurate, transparent and consistent emissions reporting across the biomass supply chain. Using data from the SBP Data Transfer System (DTS), it provides a streamlined approach to calculating emissions in line with SBP Standard 6 requirements.
Built in accordance with SBP Instruction Document 6D, the EU Renewable Energy Directive (REDIII), and SBP Instruction Document Japan, the Calculator helps users generate reliable emissions data with confidence.
What the Calculator does
The GHG Calculator uses DTS data to calculate greenhouse gas emissions across the supply chain, reducing the need for manual data handling and specialist technical input. By integrating directly with DTS exports, it improves efficiency and minimises the risk of human error.
Key features
- DTS integration
Uses SBP DTS data directly, reducing manual input and improving accuracy - Flexible data inputs
Enables the use of both default values and actual supply chain data - Comparison of methodologies
Allows comparison of emissions calculated using default values from the EU Renewable Energy Directive (RED) and Japanese Feed-in Tariff (FIT) and Feed-in Premium (FIP) schemes with those based on real-world data - Supply chain insight
Supports analysis of emissions across different stages of the biomass supply chain - Electricity factor comparison
Allows, in some cases, comparison between market-based and location-based electricity emission factors
Who it’s for
The Calculator has been developed primarily for End-users, but can also support:
- Biomass Producers – to understand the carbon footprint of products
- Traders – to assess the impact of transportation
- Certification Bodies – to support verification during audits
The Calculator supports understanding of GHG calculations and can assist both auditors and auditees, but it is not intended to replace existing Certificate Holder systems.
A comprehensive User Guide is available here.
Independent verification
The Calculator has undergone independent limited assurance verification by SGS, a globally recognised testing, inspection and certification body. This means its methodology and functionality have been reviewed and no material issues were identified, providing confidence in the reliability of the results. Read the verification statement here.
Although every effort has been made to ensure the Calculator is correct at time of publication, there may be errors or incomplete functionality. Therefore, Certificate Holders that wish to publicly disclose or report the results of the calculation must have SBP Standard 6 in their scope. SBP will publish bug-fixes and corrections periodically and as appropriate.
Get started
You can access the SBP GHG Calculator by completing the form below.
Import DTS data
Upload data from the SBP DTS using SAR exports, removing the need for manual data entry and reducing the risk of error.
Select your calculation approach
Apply default values (for example, RED, Japanese FIT/FIP) or use actual supply chain data to reflect real-world conditions and compare different methodologies.
Generate and analyse results
View greenhouse gas emissions across the supply chain, explore key drivers, and use the outputs to support reporting, verification and decision-making.
