Note on terminology: EU Renewable Energy Directive
Please note that, with immediate effect, the SBP convention will be to refer to the Renewable Energy Directive as the EU RED.
Where we refer to the EU RED, this should be understood to mean the latest, currently effective version of the Renewable Energy Directive. As it stands today, this refers to the Renewable Energy Directive EU/2023/2413, commonly known as REDIII.
REDIII Level A risk assessments
To support Biomass Producers with the transition to REDIII, SBP has created and published a number of REDIII Level A risk assessments to assist them in implementing the management systems necessary for compliance with the EU RED sustainability criteria. As independent documents, the REDIII Level A Risk Assessments will replace the Annex 6 REDII Level A Risk Assessment from the Regional Risk Assessments.
The REDIII Level A risk assessments for the seven regions covered by SBP Regional Risk Assessments are currently available as consultation drafts. All stakeholders are invited to comment. Full details available here.

Instruction Document EU RED: Bridging Requirements for Meeting the Renewable Energy Directive EU/2023/2413
This Instruction Document specifies bridging requirements between the current SBP normative framework and Renewable Energy Directive 2023/2413 (REDIII).
Instruction Document EU RED: Principles for Management of EU RED Scheme
This Instruction Document specifies the SBP scheme principles and internal management system for REDIII. It also provides further details on the implementation of some important policies and procedures.
Instruction Document 6D: Methodology for the Calculation and Certification of GHG Emissions Savings for EU RED
This Instruction Document is optional within the SBP Framework, but is mandatory to Certificate Holders that need to perform greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions savings calculations in accordance with the revised EU Renewable Energy Directive 2023/2413 (REDIII).

Proof of sustainability provides documented evidence that biomass complies with EU REDII.

This document may also be used under REDIII.
SBP-recognised REDII Level A Risk Assessment for Article 29 (6-7) Forest Biomass
This document may still be used for REDIII for indicators that have not changed under the revised Directive (i.e., legality, regeneration, long-term production capacity and LULUCF).
