Our strategy
As sustainable biomass continues to demonstrate its value in the global shift away from fossil fuels, SBP is committed to playing a leading role in advancing the circular bioeconomy and supporting the cascading use of biomass. Our 2026-2030 Strategy sets out how we will strengthen our contribution to credible, responsible biomass sourcing, grounded in robust sustainability standards and transparent, science‑based assurance.
Looking ahead to 2030, the Strategy builds on more than a decade of progress and responds to an evolving landscape of decarbonisation, regulatory change and heightened expectations for climate, nature and social integrity. It reaffirms our Purpose: to expand the contribution of good biomass to the global bioeconomy.
At the core of the Strategy are four Strategic Aims that guide our direction for the next five years:
- Define good biomass through sustainability criteria
- Grow recognition and acceptance of the SBP Standards
- Support Certificate Holders to meet their climate, biodiversity and social goals
- Diversify the sources and uses of SBP‑certified material
These Aims are supported by five Focus Areas that shape our delivery programme:
standards development and regulatory compliance; certification and assurance; data capture, traceability and impact; engagement and collaboration with interested and impacted parties; and market development.
Underlying all elements of the Strategy are SBP’s four Values, which continue to guide how we work and how we engage with our stakeholders.
Together, these elements set a clear and ambitious path for SBP to provide trusted assurance, enable responsible market growth, and contribute meaningfully to a sustainable, circular bioeconomy through to 2030.
